Rookie runner makes national team

- December 7, 2007

Peter Corrigan

Peter Corrigan, a rookie runner on Dalhousie聽University鈥檚 cross-country team has qualified for the Canadian junior team. He earned his spot on聽the national team by finishing sixth in the Canadian Cross Country Championships held last weekend.

鈥淚t still hasn鈥檛 really sunk in, but it becomes a little more real every time someone congratulates me," says the runner. "I鈥檝e been trying to make a Canadian national team for a couple of years now, narrowly missing out two times. I鈥檓 just so happy that it finally happened.鈥

Making the Canadian junior team caps a banner season for Mr. Corrigan, an arts student from Calgary, AB.

鈥淚 had three main goals entering into this cross-country season; be rookie-of-the-year for AUS and CIS, achieve all-Canadian honours and make the junior national team. I accomplished all three of them, I couldn鈥檛 be happier with my season.鈥

鈥淧eter is one of the best competitors I鈥檝e ever coached," says Dan Hennigar, Dalhousie's cross-country coach. "He is mentally tough and adapts well when a race deviates from his pre-race plan. I would feel pretty safe in predicting that we鈥檙e going to be seeing a lot more from this runner in the future.鈥

The Canadian junior team will compete at the North American Central America Caribbean Championship in Florida this March before heading to Edinburgh, Scotland for the World Cross Country Championships on March 30.
