Residence students volunteer during last year's community day.

Dalhousie residence students are hitting the streets to give back to the community. This year鈥檚 activities for聽Community Day聽on Saturday, Oct. 2 include a food drive for Feed Nova Scotia, random acts of kindness and a school clean up.

Students will be handing out cookies and raking leaves on neighbours鈥 properties and asking others to 鈥榩ay it forward鈥櫬燼nd doing聽an act of kindness for another.

Once again students will be working with parents and students of the LeMarchant Street Thomas School on a variety of activities including a garden and playground clean up.聽

鈥淭he objective of residence community day is to provide students with an opportunity to make a difference in the local community,鈥 explains Melissa MacKay, residence education coordinator.

Students will also be hosting a car wash on the South Street side of the Risley Hall parking lot, a new addition to this years鈥 event. Community members can have their cars washed and any donations raised will go to support breast cancer. The students of Shirreff Hall run a 鈥楾hink Pink鈥 campaign during October to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. Students in Shirreff Hall and Eliza Ritchie will also be participating in this year鈥檚 Run for the Cure.
