Able@Dal is an Orientation program specifically designed for first-year Dalhousie and King's students who are receiving academic accommodations due to a disability or medical condition.
Led by staff, faculty and students, Able@Dal focuses on skill development and learning strategies that are essential to your success as a student. Students are strongly encouraged to attend this event. Benefits include:
- Connecting with other new from high school students.
- Hearing first-hand from students about what it means to be a student with accommodations.
- Developing a better understanding of accommodations at Dalhousie and King's and how to ask for support.
- Hearing first-hand from professors on classroom expectations and ways to be successful.
- Learning how to request and use your accommodations and different supports on campus.
- Meeting your Access Advisor and the rest of the Student Accessibility Centre Team.

Able@Dal Family & Friends Sessions – August 30, 2024

This presentation is for Family and Friends of Dalhousie students registered with the Accessibility Centre. Hosted by Access Advisors, Faculty, and staff, this live and recorded session will introduce you to common first-year transitions and helpful campus resources. We encourage you to attend in order to get information about the best ways to help and support first year at Dalhousie students. Recording will be uploaded after event.
Virtual SessionsÌý
The Student Accessibility Centre will also be hosting virtual information sessions leading up to the Fall 2024 semester.Ìý
Topics will include:
Writing Centre Session –ÌýAugust 28 (3:30 p.m. Atlantic Time)
Join Kala, Writing Centre Advisor as well as Abby and Alyson, Access Advisors, for a virtual session around the services and supports that the Writing Centre offers. We will be focusing on note-taking best practices. Any interested student may attend this session.
Graduate Studies – August 27 (7:00 p.m. Atlantic Time)
Join Access Advisor Rebecca in welcoming incoming Dalhousie graduate students with accessibility needs. This session is intended to focus on the transition from undergraduate to graduate level accessibility plans.
Assistive Technology –ÌýAugust 27 (7:00 p.m. Atlantic Time)
Join Access Advisor Gillian for a virtual session to review the assistive technologies that are designed to reduce or remove barriers to students’ learning. Session will take place via Teams. Any student that feels that assistive technology would aid in their learning experience are welcome to attend.
