Since 1999,听Unama鈥檏i Institute of Natural Resources听(UINR) has represented Cape Breton鈥檚 Mi鈥檏maq voice on natural resources and environmental concerns. 听UINR represents the five Mi鈥檏maq communities of Unama鈥檏i and was formed to address concerns regarding natural resources and their sustainability. 听UINR鈥檚 goals: 听To provide resources for Mi鈥檏maq equal participation in natural resource management in Unama鈥檏i and its traditional territory; to strengthen Mi鈥檏maq research and natural resource management while maintaining our traditions and world views; to partner with other groups sharing the same desire to protect and preserve our resources for future generations.
